The Director of Public Works is responsible for all elements of the City’s infrastructure, maintenance services, engineering, and water quality programs. He reports directly to the City Manager and also acts as the City Engineer.
Brian McMinn has served as the Director of Public Works and City Engineer for the City of South San Francisco since December 2013. After working briefly for a heavy civil construction company, his professional engineering career started with a consulting firm where he was a design engineer. Prior to South San Francisco, Brian worked for the City of Monterey and became their first principal engineer overseeing the Capital Projects division with responsibility for design and construction of the City’s Capital Improvement program. He possesses an Associate Degree in Physics from Hartnell Community College in Salinas, California, a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and a Master of Public Administration from San Jose State University. Brian is also a licensed Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor.
As Director of Public Works, Brian oversees a department of over 80 full-time and part-time employees, an annual operating and capital budget of $70 million, and the City’s public infrastructure.
