Finding Our Stories: Craft Talk with Writer Sean Davis
- Date: 01/26/2019 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
- Location: South San Francisco Main Library
840 W Orange Ave
South San Francisco, California 94080
We all have a story to tell. Join award-winning author and Purple Heart combat veteran Sean Davis in this two hour craft talk about finding your story and putting it on the page. We will examine what it means to write nonfiction and ask why is nonfiction the only genre of writing that is defined by what it is not: not fiction. We will have two to three writing exercises and discuss how we can shape our own stories while still being true to our experiences, we will list some guidelines that may be helpful when gathering your memories and creating a story from them, and we will talk about how to use the pain and trauma in our lives in a positive way inside our stories. Sean will also be reading from his new collaboration, "The Jesus He Deserved & Other Thoughts on War & on Returning." All three authors are combat veterans and the stories are about their lives before, during, and after the war.
Laptops are available for checkout or please bring your own writing materials.
