Volunteer Job Title: Community Learning Center MakerSpace Aide

Time Commitment: 1.5 - 2 hour shift; 5-month time commitment required. 
  • Minimum 1 shift per week: Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays 4:30-6:00, or Fridays 3:15-5:15.

Job Description:

Assist Community Learning Center staff with running MakerSpace sessions with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in an after-school program. Primary duties involve helping students with MakerSpace projects and technology issues. Secondary duties involve material setup and clean-up. 
Duties (may include):
  • Assist 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to experience the joy of learning through creative engineering challenges (e.g., 3D printer).
  • Collaborate with program staff to coach students and work in teams. Mentor the students to become excited and achieve their engineering goals.
  • Be familiar with makerspace materials and equipment available for the children. Enjoy using the brand-new makerspace equipment to increase student accomplishments.
  • Understand and follow all Community Learning Center Volunteer procedures. Participate in training sessions.
  • Document stories of student achievement and success in activities and projects for funder reports.

Qualifications:

 Minimum age 16. Fingerprinting will be required for those selected.

Performance expectations:

  • Ability to speak before a small audience
  • Good knowledge of makerspace technology
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Prompt and responsible attendance

Orientation:

Full training will be provided to all volunteers.
