Community Partnerships Bring Entertainment to South City
The South San Francisco Public Library frequently partners with local businesses to bring entertaining and educational programming to South City. Tuesday was a lively night at Armstrong Brewing Co. with entertaining sea shanties and a humorous author talk by Kirk Lombard. Kirk Lombard is a commercial fisherman, owner of Sea Forager and author of The Sea Forager’s Guide to the Northern California Coast, an entertaining guide which combines a startling depth of knowledge with wry humor and colorful storytelling to guide readers’ quests to hook fish, dig clams, and pick seaweed for themselves. Leighton Kelly’s stunning, occasionally idiosyncratic illustrations complement practical instructions for gathering a variety of fish and seafood and delicious recipes for what to do with each catch. In addition to reading from his book, he brought along The Fishwives Trio. Kirk “the singing fishmonger,” Camilla Lombard on accordion and Cary Kirk on guitar worked the room singing irreverent songs of the sea. The atmosphere of Armstrong Brewing Company was perfect for this lively group. The best part of the night was 7thgrader Josh, who brought his “well loved” copy of Kirk’s book, eager to meet the Sea Forager, talk shop and get his book signed.
