DIA DE LOS MUERTOS / DAY OF THE DEAD
October 12 and 13
SSF Municipal Services Building, 33 Arroyo Drive
Betty Weber Gallery
Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead is observed late October and early November in Mexico, Central America and world-wide in regions with people of Mexican ancestry. This cultural tradition honors the life of deceased family members and friends. It is a joyful celebration, expressed in colorful and vibrant crafts, art, music, dance, parades and the preparation of traditional cuisine at family gatherings. Symbols typical to this holiday include marigolds, sugar skulls, paper mache skeletons, tissue paper decorations, ornate candles and shrines, elaborate skull make-up and costume of traditional characters and papel picado (hand cut paper).
Entries are invited for a multi-media art show taking place October 12 and 13. Participation is open to Bay Area residents, 16 years and older. Entries must reflect the themes and traditions of the Dia De Los Muertos / Day of the Dead celebration. Halloween iconography is NOT eligible.
Entry delivery and deadline is Wednesday, October 10, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Participants must hand-deliver entries, completed application and fees to docents at the Betty Weber Gallery located in the South San Francisco Municipal Services Building, 33 Arroyo Drive.
This will be a juried event. Ribbons will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in both media categories: 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional.
