The Orange Memorial Park Sculpture Garden has two new visitors, Puzzle People by sculptor, Celeste Welch.

News Image CENTENNIAL CASCADE UNVEILED!
Located near the bocce court at the westernmost point of the Orange Memorial Park Sculpture Garden is the city’s newest sculpture installation. This elegant piece rises dramatically from the ground while the alluring sound of trickling water and the mesmerizing pattern of cylindrical shapes serve to remind the viewer of the regenerative character of nature.

Cultural Arts Commission: Public Art Sites, Cultural Art Events, Art Shows, and Arts Partnerships

Regular Meeting of the Cultural Arts Commission is canceled in August

The regular, monthly meeting of the Cultural Arts Commission scheduled for August 21, 2008, is canceled. The next Cultural Arts meeting (third Thursday) will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008.

Meetings begin at 7:00 pm at the Municipal Services Building, 33 Arroyo Drive.

The Cultural Arts Commission was pleased to award the 2008 Jack Drago Cultural Arts Commission Youth Art scholarship to Tephany-Lou Padreganda of South San Francisco High School and David O’Nyon of El Camino High School.

News Image Join us for an exciting 2008 Art Gallery Program!
The Cultural Arts Commission sponsors a series of quarterly art shows and gallery exhibits designed to showcase the visual creativity of local and Bay Area artists. In past years, a wide spectrum of art styles reflecting diverse interests has been presented including sculpture, bonsai, photography, quilting, youth art and two dimensional arts. Commemorating the 2008 city-wide celebration of South San Francisco’s Centennial, this year’s gallery events will include special exhibits and activities.

At the Tennis Drive entrance of the Orange Memorial Park Sculpture Garden, visitors are invited to enjoy STONE HORIZON.

An interactive, granite sculpture by renowned sculptor, Bruce Beasley welcomes viewers as it allows the visitor not only to experience it visually but also to sit and even to stretch out on it. The vision for Stone Horizon suggests fluidity of shape, spatial interaction and abstract concepts.

Cultural Arts Commission
Meets the 3rd Thursday of the month, 7:00 pm, Betty Weber Room, Municipal Services Building, 33 Arroyo Drive.  The public is welcome, and encouraged to attend.

News Image Don’t miss the City Centennial Poster Exhibit

South San Francisco officially evolved from town to city when it was incorporated on September 19, 1908. To mark the Centennial celebration, the city sponsored a city wide poster contest. Over 300 youth from schools throughout the city participated.

Support the Arts in South San Francisco by Volunteering

Residents who value the arts in their community are invited to join the Friends of the Cultural Arts Commission. The Friends are a non voting support group that assists in accomplishing the goals of the commission, and presenting cultural art events in South San Francisco.

Cultural Arts Commissioner Ronald C. Burgess was appointed to the commission in July 1995 and served until 2002. He was reappointed in August 2004. He served as chair pro tem in 1997 and chair in 1998.
