The City of South San Francisco is a General Law City and was incorporated on September 19, 1908. South San Francisco's elections are held in November of even-numbered years. The Mayor and Vice Mayor are appointed by the City Council for a one-year term.

NOVEMBER 6, 2018 ELECTION
The City will hold its General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, for the following Offices:
Three (3) Members of the City Council: full respective terms of four (4) years
One (1) City Clerk: full term of four (4) years
One (1) City Treasurer: full term of four (4) years

Residents interested in candidacy may make an appointment with the City Clerk to pull nomination papers for each of the above referenced Offices beginning on July 16, 2018. Please call 650-877-8519 to make an appointment. The nomination period closes on August 10, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. If nomination papers for an incumbent Officer of the City are not filed by August 10, 2018 the voters will have until August 15, 2018, to nominate candidates other than the person(s) who are the incumbents.

Pursuant to actions at the regular meetings of June 13, 2018 and June 27, 2018 the City Council placed the following measures on the ballot to be voted on at the November 6, 2018 General Municipal Election:
Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Measure
To maintain the quality of life in South San Francisco by providing services and improvements to accommodate visitors and residents, enhance public safety, community development, parks and recreation programs, street repair and traffic circulation, and for unrestricted general revenue purposes, shall an ordinance be adopted increasing the ongoing tax on hotel guests from 10% to 12% with a 1% increase each subsequent year up to a maximum rate of 14%, providing approximately an additional $5,920,000 annually?

To maintain the quality of life in South San Francisco by providing public safety services to address the impact of commercial cannabis operations permitted within the City and for unrestricted general revenue purposes, shall an ordinance be adopted establishing an ongoing business license tax on all cannabis businesses of no more than 5% of gross receipts to vary by each type of permitted business, providing approximately $100,000 to $700,000 or more in revenues annually?
