The former site of Bethlehem Steel represented the City’s first redevelopment project in the late 1970s with the formation of the Gateway Specific Plan District. Today the area is a thriving development containing several high rise buildings, hotels, and high-technology companies.

Bio-Technology Companies
The Gateway area also contains a large concentration of bio-technology companies, including Elan (Athena Neurosciences), Tularik and Fibrogen in the Britannia Biotechnology Center, and Coulter Pharmaceuticals.
