Military Equipment

On September 30, 2021, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill No. 481 into law. This bill requires law enforcement agencies, “obtain approval of the applicable governing body, by adoption of a military equipment use policy, as specified, by ordinance at a regular meeting held pursuant to specified open meeting laws, prior to taking certain actions relating to the funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment, as defined.” The Military Equipment policy was introduced during a public meeting on June 22, 2022 and approved by City Council on July 27, 2022.

On March 25, 2024, the South San Francisco Police Department is hosting a community engagement meeting regarding the funding, acquisition, and use of items designated as military equipment pursuant to Assembly Bill 481. The meeting will include a short presentation about Assembly Bill 481, a summary of our equipment, followed by an opportunity for you to ask questions and speak with staff from the police department.
