Residential Rental Developers
Currently, the City does not have an inclusionary affordable housing requirement for private, market-rate rental projects. However, the City Council will consider an ordinance adopting an inclusionary requirement for rental developments in September 2018.
Residential For-Sale Developers
Currently, the City has a 20% inclusionary affordable housing requirement for private, market-rate for-sale projects. Those requirements are codified in South San Francisco Municipal Code Chapter 20.380. The City Council will consider an ordinance amending these requirements in September 2018.
The City Council adopted an ordinance adopting a commercial linkage fee on August 22, 2018. The ordinance and associated resolution requires commercial developers to pay an affordable housing impact fee for the following uses, in the following amounts.
- Office, research and development, and medical: $15 per square foot
- Hotel, resorts, and other lodging: $5 per square foot
- Retail, restaurants, and other services: $2.50 per square foot
