Local Artists - New 2019 Public Art Opportunity
Urban Art Mural Project
To communicate and inspire support for a no smoking initiative in the downtown corridor, the South San Francisco Cultural Arts Commission established an Urban Art project with the goal of highlighting healthy living and anti-smoking themes via a series of engaging and unexpected urban art murals. The Commission is seeking an artist or team of artists to create between 15 and 20 urban art pieces that incorporate these themes.
Distinctive images that enliven the public realm and reflect the immediate environment, surprising and delighting pedestrians as they commute through the downtown area are encouraged. Three styles of urban art images are eligible as follows:
* Daytime viewable images - The work will be viewed during daylight hours.
* Shadow art images - To be painted on the sidewalk in a subtle way.
* Night time viewable images – Up to 6 pieces may reflect this style.
The application deadline is Friday, September 6, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. Download the Urban Art Mural Project Request for Proposals. Guidelines may also be obtained at the SSF Parks and Recreation Department office, 33 Arroyo Drive, during business hours. For information, contact the Cultural Arts liaison at (650) 829-3800.
