The Maintenance Division provides maintenance, construction, and 24-hour emergency services for the roads, sewer, and storm drain infrastructure of the community of South San Francisco. This division is divided into the following six crews.

Electrical Maintenance - This crew maintains the traffic signals in the Cities of South San Francisco, Brisbane, San Bruno and the Town of Colma.

The following signals are maintained are maintained by Caltrans along State Routes. These signals are located at the following intersections:

  • Dubuque Ave & Airport Blvd.
  • El Camino Real & McLellan Dr.
  • Dubuque Ave. & Oyster Point Blvd.
  •  El Camino Real & Ponderosa Rd.
  • El Camino Real & Arroyo Dr.
  •  El Camino Real & Spruce Ave.
  • El Camino Real & Chestnut Ave.
  •  El Camino Real & West Orange Ave.
  • El Camino Real & Costco
  •  Junipero Serra Blvd. & Avalon Dr. 
  • El Camino Real & Country Club Dr.
  •  So. Airport Blvd. & 380 Off Ramp
  • El Camino Real & Hickey Blvd. 
  •  So. Airport Blvd. & Wonder Color Ln.
  • El Camino Real & Kaiser
  •  Westborough Blvd. & 280 Off Ramp

Fleet Maintenance - This team services over 300 pieces of motorized equipment within the City’s fleet of vehicles and mechanical equipment. 

Sewer & Storm Maintenance - This crew maintains the City’s sewer main lines (excluding Westborough and unincorporated areas) and some laterals of houses and businesses with a City approved cleanout. Property owners without a City approved cleanout are responsible for lateral maintenance. This includes cleaning, repairs, and reconstruction of the sewer lateral from the house or business to the main line. Check with us before you hire a contractor to complete the work. The Storm Drain crew is responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of the storm drain infrastructure and responds to mandates imposed by the Federal Government (Clean Water Act) as monitored by the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) to lessen pollution and damage to streets and structures. 

Sidewalk & Street Maintenance - This team addresses potholes, evaluates sidewalk conditions and responds to other hazardous street concerns. Any pothole or maintenance repairs on El Camino Real (CA Highway 82) should be reported to Caltrans at (650) 358-4127.

Street Sweeping & Clean Team Please note that street sweeping in South San Francisco will not be performed for the duration of the Shelter in Place order due to the Coronavirus. 

The street sweeping team helps us keep our City streets as clean as possible. There are no parking signs posted throughout the City that indicate a day and time. These signs are posted to prohibit vehicles from parking on the street for more than 72 hours. While they are not posted for street sweeping, our crew tries to take advantage of these restrictions when planning the sweeper routes. The clean team cleans areas where sweepers are not able to access.

Please note that street sweeping does not occur on city observed holidays.   

Traffic Signs & Markings Maintenance - This crew is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all City traffic signs, street name signs, and painted legends and symbols. The Traffic Advisory Committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month to review requests for new traffic controls (stop signs, street lights, speed humps, etc.). All requests must be submitted utilizing  a TAC form and include your name, address, phone number, location of the request, and a detailed description/ recommendation on how to address your complaint or recommendation.
