Oyster Point Boat Removal

South San Francisco is taking action to improve safety and access at Oyster Point, with the removal of abandoned and blighted vessels now underway.

This progress follows the City Council’s approval of a Mooring Ordinance, led by Vice Mayor Mark Addiego, which gives the City authority to address derelict boats in the City’s navigable waterways. Previously, vessels could remain idle in the water for months. Under the new ordinance, the City can now issue notice and proceed with removal with 10 days notice to vessel owners and the availability of the City’s on-call salvage companies.

“As we speak, vessels are being removed from the open water in the cove,” said Vice Mayor Addiego. “Removing these abandoned boats is about more than aesthetics—it’s about protecting public safety, the environment, and restoring full use of our waterfront for the community.”

The ordinance represents a critical step forward in revitalizing South San Francisco’s waterfront and ensuring that Oyster Point remains a resource for all to enjoy.
