The lattice-welded, ball-shaped, steel sculpture is the creation of Oregonian sculptor Ivan Mclean. His distinctive spherical sculptures are fashioned in a variety of patterns and sizes and can be found in galleries, public and private collections.

The untitled 45” metal sphere was generously donated in 2016 by the sculptor. It remained in storage since plans for utilization of the sphere had not been determined. In 2020, the decision was made to install the piece in a public space for the community’s enjoyment. The median at Lux and Maple Avenue was identified as an ideal location as it was a gateway linking three neighborhoods.

The City’s collection includes another of Ivan’s ball sculptures titled “Stainless Sphere 84,”  and is located in the Orange Park Sculpture Garden.
