City welcomes Eddie Flores as first Salvadoran mayor

Eddie Flores

The City of South San Francisco is pleased to announce its reorganization following the recent election. South San Francisco City Councilmembers voted Eddie Flores as Mayor, and Mark Addiego as Vice Mayor at last night’s City Council Reorganization Event.

The council extends heartfelt congratulations to the re-elected councilmembers, Mark Nagales for District 2 and James Coleman for District 4, whose dedication and vision will continue to help guide our community toward a brighter future.

The City also wishes to express its deep gratitude to outgoing Mayor James Coleman for his outstanding service and leadership during his tenure. Under his guidance, the City secured grant funding to expand the Promotores program for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, expanded the South San Francisco Shuttle service, and the opening of two new parks: Centennial Way Park South and Oyster Point Shoreline Park Phase 2C, leaving a lasting positive impact on our city.

Mayor Eddie Flores is the City’s first Salvadoran mayor, and the first Salvadoran-born immigrant to assume the role of mayor in the history of the San Francisco Bay Area. This historic milestone is a testament to the diverse and inclusive spirit of our community, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry that makes South San Francisco unique.

Mayor Eddie’s commitment to fostering growth and affordable housing, promoting mental health services, and addressing climate change and sustainability promises an exciting new chapter for South San Francisco. His leadership is characterized by a deep understanding of the challenges faced by our community and a relentless dedication to creating a better future for all residents. Mark Addiego's headshot

Vice Mayor Mark Addiego was the youngest person elected to the City Council in South San Francisco during his first term in 1980. He was elected again in 1985 and served two terms as Mayor during his first Council tenure.

After a break from city government, Addiego returned to the City Council in 2005. He was re-elected in 2009 and again in 2022. Addiego has a strong commitment to open and accessible local government proceedings.

The reorganization represents a renewed spirit of collaboration as we work together to ensure progress and prosperity for all residents. You can watch the replay at https://www.ssf.net/Government/Video-Streaming-City-and-Council-Meetings
