Say goodbye to gas with used EV rebates!

San Mateo County residents can receive a rebate of up to $4,000 to offset the purchase price of a used electric vehicle (EV)

Used EV owners save money on fueling and maintenance costs. Now, thanks to rebates from Peninsula Clean Energy, they can also enjoy immediate savings at time of purchase.

And income-qualified residents can save even more by combining additional offers from other state and local programs.

“I wholeheartedly recommend this program. Applying is simple and the amazing Staff helps every step of the way. It’s a money-saver and a smart, environmentally friendly investment. Peninsula Clean Energy made it easy to make the decision to buy a used EV.”

– Victor B., used EV owner and San Mateo County resident

San Mateo County is going electric

Peninsula Clean Energy is committed to providing environmental and economic benefits to the residents and businesses of San Mateo County. This commitment includes helping the entire county make the easy transition to EVs through rebates and expansive efforts to install new charging infrastructure across the region.

EVs provide lasting benefits to our community. In addition to offering significantly lower operation and maintenance costs to drivers, EVs emit significantly less emissions than gasoline-powered cars.

What is Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE)?

Peninsula Clean Energy is a public, locally-controlled electricity provider that provides its electric customers with energy that is 100% carbon-free and the choice of having 50% to 100% of their electricity supplied from clean, renewable sources at competitive rates. They generate the electricity, and PG&E delivers it over their lines and wires.

Since 2016 PCE has saved over 842,000 metric tons of carb emissions, an amount equivalent to avoiding the use of 95 million gallons of gas! They use sources such as wind and solar to be 100% carbon-free and they are on target to become 100% renewable by 2025.

Programs

EV Ready Program is a $28 million electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure program seeking to install 2,500 charging ports in San Mateo County over four years.

Used EV Rental Rebate Program gives you the opportunity rent an EV through a rental car company of your choice on them! You can now experience an EV before you buy one!

Heat Pump Water Heater (HPWH) systems use advanced technology to move heat instead of generating it, making them an energy-efficient, all-electric upgrade for both hot water and heating/cooling your home.

Net energy metering (NEM) is applicable to a customer who uses an eligible Renewable Electrical Generation Facility, as defined in PG&E’s Electric Schedule NEM, within the capacity limits described in PG&E’s Electric Schedule NEM that is located on the customer’s owned, leased, or rented premises, is interconnected and operates in parallel with PG&E’s transmission and distribution systems, and is intended primarily to offset part or all of the customer’s own electrical requirements (hereinafter “eligible customer-generator” or “customer”).

Peninsula Clean Energy's Used EV Rebate Program is making it more affordable for income-qualifying San Mateo County residents to purchase a used electric vehicle by providing a vehicle rebate up to $4,000.

Upgrading to 100% renewable electricity is a powerful action you can take that is good for the environment, and easy! ECO100 rates cost just 1 cent more per kilowatt hour more than ECOplus rates. For the average household, this premium is only about $4-5 more per month.

Understanding My Bill

Residential Rates

Charges for electricity on your PG&E bill include:

  • Peninsula Clean Energy electric generation: These charges are for generating the electricity you use. Customers save money with PCE's standard ECOplus service when compared to PG&E's rates.

PG&E electric delivery:

  • These charges are for maintaining PG&E's wires, infrastructure, and delivering electricity to your home are the same for Peninsula Clean Energy and non-Peninsula Clean Energy customers.

Most of PCE customers are automatically enrolled in ECOplus service, which costs less than PG&E and is 100% carbon-free.

If you want to do more for the environment, upgrade to ECO100 service. It provides energy that is 100% carbon-free and 100% renewable and costs only $0.01 per kWh more than our standard ECOplus service. In Portola Valley, customers are automatically enrolled in ECO100, based on their Town Council’s vote to go carbon-free and 100% renewable. This makes Portola Valley one of the first towns in California to be entirely 100% renewable!
