Downtown South San Francisco Revitalization

The City of South San Francisco is focused on ways to enhance revitalization of our downtown. Several community engagement efforts are underway to support local merchants, ease parking availability, create more community spaces and activation of breezeways, and events.

Proposed Downtown Improvement District

The City of South San Francisco is engaged in a process to revitalize downtown South San Francisco. We are listening to property owners, business owners, residents, and other downtown stakeholders about improvements that can be made to the downtown area. A steering committee of downtown stakeholders has been formed to examine the feasibility of a Downtown SSF Improvement District.

A Downtown SSF Improvement District could:

  • Promote a Clean and Safe Downtown by:
    • Graffiti Abatement
    • Pressure Washing Sidewalks
    • Removal of Trash and Debris
    • Private security patrols
    • Market, Promote and Assist Downtown Businesses
  • Market, Promote and Assist Downtown Businesses

  • Improve wayfinding signage to large parking facilities

  • Promote and Host Special Events

The Downtown SSF Improvement District can take a variety of actions to improve downtown South San Francisco. These include, but are not limited to: 

  • Organizing events downtown with the goal of attracting more customers to downtown businesses. 
  • Improving wayfinding signage leading to public parking lots and garages. 
  • Cleaning streets and sidewalks in downtown South San Francisco more frequently.
