The South San Francisco Public Works Department is comprised of its three main divisions - Engineering, Maintenance & Operations, and the Water Quality Control Plant. The South San Francisco Fire Department was founded in 1908 and transformed from a small volunteer department that responded to fires with a hand drawn cart to the professional group of career firefighters it is today.
