As part of the City’s response to COVID-19, the Community Learning Center and Project Read have moved to modified operations until further notice. The City of South San Francisco remains open, however operations will occur via email at clc@ssf.net to limit in-person contact. Essential services from first-responders will continue.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we do our part to address this global health crisis.

Project Read

 Our Mission

Assisting adults to read better helps their families and our communities. Project Read helps low literacy and low income adults to reach their literacy and financial goals.

"It makes me feel good working with my tutor. I have the power to improve myself, and I will." - Anonymous Learner

"If you study, you will learn. This is my motto." - Halima Laraj, Adult Learner

"All of a sudden I realized that I had understood the email from a friend with a quick first-time read. It occurred to me how much I had improved." - Anonymous Learner

Who We Are

We are adult learners, volunteer tutors, and program staff dedicated to lifelong learning. We assist individuals who live in Colma, Daly City, San Bruno, and South San Francisco. With the help of a volunteer tutor, learners become more independent at home, at work, and in their communities.

Programs Offered

We offer free programs to improve the lives of Project Read adult learners. We also offer free training, workshops, books and on-going support for our volunteer tutors. Adult learners enrich their lives, as well as the lives of their families, by working on their goals.
