2025 Jack Drago Youth Art Internship

The City of South San Francisco’s Cultural Arts Program is proud to offer the 2025 Jack Drago Youth Art Internship, a paid Youth Art Internship Flyer summer opportunity for high school students with a passion for the arts and a desire to engage in creative public service.

This internship is designed for students who are either graduating seniors (Class of 2025) or rising juniors (Class of 2026) who reside in South San Francisco or attend school within the South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD). One student will be selected to participate in a hands-on, project-based experience working alongside City staff and local arts professionals.

Internship Overview: The intern will choose to participate in one of two available project tracks: Visual Arts or Performing Arts. Each track includes an assigned community-based project designed to provide real-world insight into careers in the arts and arts administration. Intern responsibilities may include community outreach, social media coordination, public art documentation, event support, and more.

  • Duration: Summer 2025
  • Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week (weekdays between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with some evenings/weekends)
  • Pay Rate: $20.07 per hour

Eligibility:

  • Must be a current senior or junior (Class of 2025 or 2026)
  • Must live in South San Francisco or attend school within SSFUSD
  • Must have a strong interest in either visual or performing arts

Application Requirements:

  • Completed City application form
  • Supplemental questionnaire
  • Personal statement (300–700 words)
  • Interview with City staff (for selected applicants)

Application Deadline:
Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., or until the first 100 applications are received, whichever comes first.

Freedom: The Future of Hope Art Show

Honoring Resilience and The Spirit of Juneteenth
Online Entry Deadline: Wednesday, June 11, 2025

Artists are invited to submit works that reflect the spirit of Juneteenth through uniquely personal expressions of hope, resilience, and freedom. Visual art entries should echo the power of perseverance, the importance of embracing self-determination and serve as a visual testament to this significant cultural observance.

  • Eligible: San Francisco Bay Area residents, 16 years and older. Original art created by artist within the last two years.
  • Entry Limit:  Three entries per exhibitor maximum. (A set or series-up to 3 components is considered one entry.)
  • Entry Fee: $5.00 per entry
  • Theme: Art should convey the theme, “Freedom: The Future of Hope.” An artist’s statement briefly describing how the work reflects the theme is required. (250 Character limit)

Media
AI (artificial intelligence) created or generated entries are not acceptable.
 
* 2-Dimensional:  Art exists primarily on a flat, two-dimensional plane and can be hung on a gallery wall. (e.g. Painting, Photography, Mixed Media, Graphics, Digitally created art)
  * 
3-Dimensional:  Art with height, width, and depth that can be perceived from multiple directions and angles and can be displayed on a table or pedestal. (e.g. Sculpture, Ceramics, Specialty Crafts)
