Explore Your Roots Art Show - Guidelines

Exhibit Opening Weekend: October 11 and 12, 2024

 Theme: Art should convey the theme, “Explore Your Roots.”
An artist’s statement briefly describing how the work reflects the theme is strongly encouraged. (250 Character limit)
Eligible: San Francisco Bay Area residents, 16 years and older. Original art created by artist within the last two years.
Entry Limit:  Three entries per exhibitor maximum. (A set or series-up to 4 components is considered one entry.)
Entry Fee: $5.00 per entry

Media:
Please note, AI (artificial intelligence) created or generated entries are not acceptable.

  • 2-Dimensional:  Art exists primarily on a flat, two-dimensional plane and can be hung on a gallery wall. (e.g. Painting, Photography, Mixed Media, Graphics, Digitally created art)
  • 3-Dimensional:  Art with height, width, and depth that can be perceived from all directions and angles and can be displayed on a table or pedestal. (e.g. Sculpture, Ceramics, Specialty Crafts)

Hand Delivery of Entries: Tuesday, October 8, 2024 | 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. & 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
(Drop-in submissions only allowed during the hand-delivery time. Read Call for Entry Guidelines for restrictions.)

By entering October 2024 “Explore Your Roots” Art Show you fully and unconditionally agree to be bound by the rules outlined in the October 2024 “Explore Your Roots” Art Show Call for Entries and the decisions of the South San Francisco Cultural Arts Commission, which will be final and binding in all matters relating to the October 2024 “Explore Your Roots” Art Show.

Preparing Your Image - Online Submission for art shows

Accepted Format: JPEG/JPG /PNG
Size: At least 500 kb and should not exceed 5.0 MB
Resolution: No less than 72 dpi and no smaller than 1000 pixels in any direction.

Digital images will represent the artwork and therefore should be suitably photographed. A clean and skillfully-styled image is highly recommended.

Do not include watermarks or frames. Images may be cropped or digitally corrected for enhanced presentation if selected for the Virtual Extended Exhibit following the show.

If possible, digitally label the image with the initial of your first name followed by your last name. (example: jdoe.jpg)

Digital image(s) must be submitted online with completed Entry Form.

Preparing Art for Live Gallery Exhibition

Two-Dimensional Entries must be display-ready for wall hanging.

  • This includes appropriate framing with D-rings (flat hangers) and strong and secure BRAIDED WIRE.
  • Hardware should not project beyond the back of the frame. Wire should be taut.
  • Clip frames, screw eyes and sawtooth hangers are NOT acceptable!
  • Frames and matting must be in new or like new condition.
  • Large or Bed-size quilts should have a 4” hanging sleeve sewn to the back and top of the entry.
  • Art should not exceed 50 pounds.

Three-Dimensional Entries must stand securely and independently. Artist should include a display stand, easel or pedestal if needed.

All Art

Must include a label securely adhered to the back of the entry with the following information centered and legibly printed: Title of art (or “untitled”), Artist Name, Type of Media, Sale Price (or “NFS”)

Entries must be finished and dry with any moveable parts securely adhered or fastened. No raw-edged glass will be accepted. Artworks will be disallowed if incomplete, wet, excessively fragile, or hazardous.
