Mayor Eddie's Newsletter - May 23, 2025
Published on May 23, 2025
Hello South San Francisco Community,

As the school year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to recognize all the students, administrators, teachers, staff, and families who helped make it through another year of learning, growing, and adapting. To our incredible educators—thank you for your tireless dedication and the care you bring into your classrooms every day. You shape not just minds, but futures. Our city is eternally grateful for your selfless dedication to teaching and learning.
To the Graduating Class of 2025—congratulations! I’m so proud of all of you! Whether you're being promoted from elementary, middle, or graduating from high school, or college, you've reached a milestone worth celebrating.
As you take your next steps, I’ll leave you with three simple pieces of advice: Stay curious, stay kind, and stay connected and engaged to your South City community. Your voice and vision matter here in South San Francisco, and we can’t wait to see where you’ll go from here.
New Bikes for 205 South San Francisco Students

One of the greatest joys of being your mayor is seeing our youth light up with excitement—and that’s exactly what happened as over 200 South San Francisco scholars received brand-new bikes and other supplies through our Every Kid Deserves a Bike program this year.
This initiative has been close to my heart since we launched it in 2022. What began during the pandemic as a way to get kids safely outdoors has grown into something bigger: A movement centered on equity, health, safety, and joy. To date, we’ve provided more than 1,400 students from low-income families with bikes, helmets, rider training, and safety gear—empowering them with freedom, confidence, and the simple joy of riding. This initiative was made possible with strong community partnerships and support from former San Mateo County Supervisor David Pine (District 1) and our California Assemblymember Diane Papan (AD-21). I’m incredibly proud of the teamwork behind this initiatie, and I am thrilled to keep it rolling for years to come!
Let’s keep investing in our youth and their bright futures.
Honoring our Local Heroes
Every year on Memorial Day, our South City community comes together to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I invite you to join me and the city council this coming Monday, May 27 for South San Francisco’s annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast and Ceremony.
Start your morning with a warm meal served by our incredible firefighters at SSF Fire Station 61 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. followed by a special ceremony with guest speakers, Al Banfield, US Army, 6th Battalion, 31st Infantry, 9th Division, Bronze Star Vietnam Veteran, and Vincent Meschi, SSF Police Officer and US Army Veteran.
It’s a meaningful and important tradition that reflects the deep gratitude we share for the brave service members who gave everything for our freedom.
Please RSVP Here
As we honor the past, we are also building something lasting for the future. I encourage you to help us recognize our local heroes by submitting names for our new Veterans Memorial at Orange Memorial Park, currently in development. This new memorial will serve as a permanent tribute to the veterans and fallen herous in our lives—family, friends, and neighbors—who have served with honor.

Let’s continue to remember, recognize, and give thanks.
